Quake was released in 1996, and it blew my little 14-year-old mind. It was the first true-3D shooter, and although it looks pretty janky by today’s standards, I simply could not believe my eyes. There was blood, guns, action, mazelike castles, unspeakable monstrosities, an incredible soundtrack by Trent Reznor of the Nine Inch Nails, and a last boss straight out of HP Lovecraft’s world... Wow. Wowowow. I still have distinct memories of what it was like to flip through the user manual in the car on the way home, and I remember playing late into the night (or as late as I was allowed) while listening to Bush’s album “Sixteen Stone” (remember, it was 1996).
On a sidenote, I listened to that album again, about 6 months ago, and you know what I realized?
Bush was not a good band.
